Announcement:
Grant Thornton LLP Acquires Assets of CCR LLP
BOSTON, December 1, 2011 — Grant Thornton LLP, the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd, today announced that it has acquired certain assets and practices of CCR LLP, a full-service accounting and advisory firm with offices in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
The transaction, effective today, will expand Grant Thornton’s presence in New England, doubling the size of the practice and expanding the firm’s Boston office. Additional offices in Westborough, MA, Providence, RI, and Glastonbury, CT create an enhanced New England cluster of professionals and practices well suited to continue to serve the region’s leading industries.
“We are excited to be joining Grant Thornton,” said David A. Platt, CCR’s managing partner, who becomes assistant managing partner in New England. “Their well-deserved reputation will allow us to further our strategic objectives throughout New England and enhance our commitment to the dynamic middle market. Most importantly, there are significant commonalities in our cultures and a shared dedication to providing outstanding client service. In this case, one plus one equals far more than two.”
“This transaction with CCR allows us to make great strides in enlarging Grant Thornton’s New England footprint,” said Scott Levy, Grant Thornton’s New England managing partner. “I’ve enjoyed getting to know the CCR partners and learning about our shared values and deep commitment to the profession and the community. Together, we expect a smooth transition among employees and clients, and look forward to future successes."
“Acquiring the practices of a large, full-service firm like CCR better enables us to serve clients throughout New England, broadens and deepens our talent base, and strengthens our foundation for growth,” said Stephen Chipman, Grant Thornton LLP’s chief executive officer. “CCR’s talent and ingenuity complements our culture, our people and our instinct for quality and growth.”
A top-100 accounting firm in the U.S and the second-largest non-national accounting firm in New England, CCR primarily focuses on audit and tax, along with economic and business advisory services. Approximately 140 professionals will join Grant Thornton, bringing expanded expertise and additional resources to support insurance organizations, government and municipal agencies, and private wealth services.
The expanded Grant Thornton will continue to support both firms’ shared commitment to the community, employee wellness, continuous learning and development, and women’s initiatives.
Grant Thornton has recently been honored once again for its strong reputation, enviable culture and market-leading human resources programs. In 2011, career intelligence website Vault.com named Grant Thornton number one in its annual survey, “Best Accounting Firms to Work For” and number three in “Diversity for Women.” Most recently, Grant Thornton finished No. 1 in Accounting News Report's analysis of third-quarter SEC auditor change based on data compiled by AuditAnalytics.com.
